assignment blog: biocube
Our biocubes have been going on for about 2 months now. This would be the last part of the assignment but it all started in summer bridge when everyone filled out a planning sheet. Every day of bridge, we would share one part of the planning sheet so that we could learn about others and get feedback to improve what we have written. Once we were sure about what we wrote, we began to design every side of our cubes on canva. Over the remaining span of summer bridge, we had to complete our biocubes ( attach the printed sides and assemble the cube) so that we could present them at the end of the summer field trip. When school started, we had to share the biocubes again but this time in different settings with different sides to practice public speaking. At this time, we had also begun to work on our Mr. Ing biocubes by creating 5 questions we wanted to ask, using readwritethink as a biocube template, then interviewing Mr. Ing with the questions we created. After sharing our Mr. Ing biocubes we are now led back to this blog.
This whole biocube project has spanned for a while now so there have been a great amount of highlights and lowlights. The part of this assignment I most enjoyed was the prompts for every side of the biocube. I enjoyed being able to think back and reflect on myself and my life to write about on the cube. I not only enjoyed this but decorating the cube was super fun because I got to put stickers and plan the layout of the cube, and I love using arts and creativity 🤭. The presentation aspect of the biocube was both a lowlight and a highlight, I didn’t enjoy it too much when presenting in the cafeteria because I couldn’t figure out a good voice level to properly be heard but over presenting I did feel that I improved. The most recent presentation I had with the Mr. Ing biocube was better than the first biocube presentation I would say because I stopped shaking and just went for it. My lowlights for the biocubes would have to be writing. I know I put that I liked answering because I liked to reflect but having to write it down was a lowlight because I had difficulty wording my answers so that when other people see my biocube they get to know me. Another lowlight of this project was the readwritethink biocube website because it was confusing to use but it all worked out in the end because I got the Mr. Ing biocube done!!
From doing this biocube project, I learned more not only about myself but also others. When people presented I discovered similarities, differences, and even small important things about them. For example, I learned more about Mr. Ing through interviewing him and that was pretty cool to be able to better understand him and the way leadership works. Another thing I learned is what a biocube is lol. This was my very first time making a biocube so the next time, if i even have to make one again, I’ll know what to do 🤗
Finally, our personal biocubes had 6 sides to it that were personality, background, significance, quote, obstacles, and our name and photos. But if I had to add another side to be shared as part of the original biocube, I would add an aspirations side. It’s might be similar to significance because peoples dreams can be important to them but having a seperate side of peoples wishes you can understand a bit of why they do what they do. For instance, why do some people focus on reading more than math? ( Thats kind of a abd example ) But by seeing what they hope in the future you can just learn even more about them and how that might connect to now.
