Weekly Blog 1 : Aug 6
This past week was our return to school and the seventh graders welcome to Ilima. 8th graders didn't start until Tuesday but we had to come on Monday anyways to assist with continued schedule pickup and café duty. On Tuesday, it was finally my first day of school. We had orientation, learned about new changes from the teachers, and got introduced to our new schedules. When we weren't at classes, we were beginning to get ready for the class aspect of leadership and for those who were new ( like the seventh graders and I ) we got to observe the other 8th graders in their duties for music, TV, and ID.
This week felt like a rollercoaster and it surprisingly went by fast. Going back to school and being able to see my friends again was definitely a highlight. I missed them so much throughout the summer so it was very exciting. Another highlight of mine was music. I got to really remember and fix my confusions on the music mixer by seeing the other 8th graders do their daily duties. Also, it was just really fun to listen and enjoy the music with the rest of the class. Last but not least, planners were a very last minute highlight. When I heard the announcement that planners arrived it was like a "yes, finally!" moment after hearing other students and teachers complain about the late planners, and not having one to keep track of classes the past week. A very big lowlight of mine was café duty. I'm so relieved to have finished it for the rest of the year because trash duty was not an easy task. It was very frustrating seeing people create messes and starting things in the cafeteria. ( Café duty made me much more appreciative of the lunch workers. )
From all that's happened this past week, the lesson I've learned from it is to be appreciative and to really be on top of things. We have to work hard for the many upcoming duties and also do our part to contribute to the school community.
